Bridges & Crowns

What Is a Dental Bridge?

If you have a missing tooth, you have a few options as to how to treat it. A dental implant is one option but a dental bridge can also replace the missing tooth. Dental implants anchor to the bone but a dental bridge uses the neighboring teeth as an anchor. A crown is placed on the teeth on either side of the gap. The false tooth is bonded between them. This may be less expensive than an implant but still gives you the appearance of a natural tooth.

What is a Crown?

A tooth crown or cap encases the entire tooth and is used to restore a tooth to its original size and shape. It is designed to look like the original tooth. Crowns are used to restore a tooth when other treatments are not possible. The tooth is protected and strengthened by the crown. Tooth colored crowns are made of porcelain and are meant to look like your natural teeth. Usually crowns last many years but sometimes they may need to be replaced.

Reasons you may need a crown:

  • Tooth has received a root canal
  • Large fillings
  • Decayed teeth
  • Cosmetic enhancement
  • Fractured or broken teeth
